The kernels from the Prunus armeniaca apricot tree have a unique and sweet almond-cherry aroma that is highly sought after in the fragrance industry. These kernels are carefully distilled to create Bitter Almond essential oil. However, this essential oil is not safe for use in its pure form and requires rectifying to remove the toxic prussic acid.
Our Bitter Almond essential oil is rectified to be Free From Prussic Acid (FFPA) and is then further diluted with Fractionated Coconut oil. This careful rectifying and dilution process makes the oil safe for use in a variety of applications, including bath and body products, candles, soap, and natural perfumes. The added benefit of the dilution is that it provides a more affordable option for those who want to enjoy the unique aroma of Bitter Almond essential oil without the hassle of complying with DEA regulations required for the pure essential oil.
It's important to note that Bitter Almond is not the same as Sweet Almond, which is another popular type of almond essential oil. While they are botanically related, Bitter Almond has a distinct gourmand aroma that is reminiscent of marzipan, cookie and cake batter, maraschino cherries, and Amaretto liqueur. This unique aroma makes it a popular choice for adding a top note of natural cherry-almond goodness to a variety of fragrance blends.
However, due to the strength of the aroma, it's important to use Bitter Almond essential oil sparingly in formulations to avoid overpowering the blend. We recommend adding it slowly and in small amounts to achieve the desired scent profile.
