CO2 Extracts

Lotus Garden Botanicals™ CO2 extracts are essential oils produced using liquid carbon dioxide as the solvent. This method of extraction produces extremely high quality solvent free essential oil. All desirable active components of specific plant parts are extracted and collected with the carbon dioxide returning to its natural gaseous state, leaving behind only the extracted essence of the plant.

Lotus Garden Botanicals™ offers Select and Total supercritical CO2 extractions:

CO2 Select: Extracted at lower pressures and contains only the volatile CO2 soluble components (± 95%). Heavier waxes, resins, and color components are left behind in a CO2 Select. This type resembles essential oil in composition but may contain more volatile components not extracted during steam distillation.

CO2 Total: Supercritical extraction at a higher pressure level, with this type of oil containing both the volatile and non-volatile CO2 soluble components of a plant. These oils contain small amounts (± 45%) of essential oil from the plant plus the heavier waxes, resins, and color compounds, making them very similar to the plant. CO2 Totals are usually thick but soluble in essential oils and carriers (vegetable oils). Note: Some CO2 Total extracts may require gentle warming to liquefy.
