Cornmint essential oil is extracted through steam distillation from the fresh flowering branches and leaves of the Cornmint plant, which is scientifically known as Mentha arvensis. This oil is a popular alternative to Peppermint essential oil due to its more herbal aroma, which is why it is also referred to as wild mint. The oil has a bold and heady scent with slightly floral notes reminiscent of Lavender.
While using Cornmint essential oil, it is recommended to blend it sparingly as it can easily overpower the aroma of other oils. The oil is an excellent choice for creating masculine blends and can be used in post-shaving skin care if it is well diluted.
Cornmint oil is believed to have a range of therapeutic properties. It is widely used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antifungal properties. It is believed to be beneficial in treating various skin conditions like eczema and ringworm. It can also be used as an analgesic for muscular and joint pains.
In addition, Cornmint oil is also useful for massage blends targeting sports-related soreness, arthritis, or rheumatic conditions. When diffused, it can help alleviate symptoms of colds, flu, coughing, and migraine headaches.
One thing to note while using Cornmint oil is that it has a high concentration of menthol, which can cause the oil to form crystals. This is a normal occurrence and does not affect the quality of the oil. The crystals will liquefy at room temperature or can be dissolved by placing the bottle in warm water.
